Earthroots: Research, Education, Action!

About Earthroots

Earthroots is a grassroots conservation organization dedicated to the preservation of wilderness, wildlife and watersheds in Canada, with a focus on Ontario.

Earthroots has been on the front lines of wilderness conservation since 1986, when our predecessor organization, the Temagami Wilderness Society (TWS) was formed. The TWS was created to fight for the preservation of rare old growth white and red pine forests in the Temagami region of northern Ontario. After campaign success in the Temagami region, the organization changed its name to Earthroots in 1991, in order to broaden the organization's campaign focus beyond the Temagami issue.

Earthroots' position on the environmental front is as both a strong advocate and agitator for wilderness preservation in Ontario. Earthroots combines aggressive grassroots campaign strategies with excellent research and educational programs. During the last 15 years Earthroots has acquired expertise in grassroots organizing, public education and mobilization, action planning, media events, research and forest management planning.

Earthroots often works in coalition with other conservation organizations, coordinating strategies to move issues forward. It is Earthroots' unique role to both work within land-use/forest management planning practices while still being vocal critics of poor processes and practices. It is crucial to have a conservation organization that is willing to challenge the system and achieve increased protection for wilderness and wildlife, and Earthroots fulfils this role.

Earthroots dedicated staff have years of experience campaigning on wilderness and wildlife issues. The effectiveness of our organization greatly depends on the support of the general public. Please join our fight to protect the wildlife and wild spaces on Ontario!
