9% of Ontario is protected as a Provincial Park or Conservation Reserve - but is it truly protected?
In March of 1999, the Ontario government announced Ontario's Living Legacy (OLL) -- an increase of 2.4 million hectares in Protected Areas. The largest increase in Protected Areas in the history of Ontario.
Protected Areas should be enjoyed in their natural state not degraded by high impact recreation and development.

Most Ontarians expect that these are areas where the natural landscape and wildlife are protected from industry and high-impact recreational activities.
Unfortunately this is not always the case!
> Nearly half of the new Protected Areas created under Ontario's Living Legacy have mine claims in them.
> Sport hunting is permitted in 428 Protected Areas.
> Roads and snowmobile trails are carving up protected wilderness areas at an alarming rate.
